I’m not too sure how it is nearly the end of August already! I fear that tomorrow I’m going to wake up on Christmas morning totally confused and with no gifts to give.
In our kitchen, the microwave clock has a hard time of holding onto time. It will gradually slip to being 5 minutes fast over a 3 month period (before we reset it back to the correct time). It’s as if it’s somehow adjusted to tracking time to life with a baby… Time just keeps on slipping away.
We’ve hit a good patch with the little guy, so I’m hoping to be able to carve out some time and blog more regularly. There’s been so much going on at the moment, so I thought I would jump on the bandwagon with this style of post that I’ve seen floating around.
Appreciating… Living in a beautiful part of inner Sydney (seriously, I have become accustomed to it and I don’t think I can leave).
… Having a great bunch of “Mum friends.” My mothers group meets up once a week and as the weather’s getting warmer it’s so nice just to sit in the park together for an hour or two. It’s so refreshing to just laugh about how our homes are now breeding grounds for bright and multi-coloured fisher price toys.
Eating… Pho. I have to restrain myself to having it once a week instead of everyday (which is hard as the place is literally 50m away).
Feeling… A bit nervous about flying to Europe with a 7 and a half month old baby. We’re leaving in two weeks and I haven’t even started to think of packing (I think I’m still in denial that it’s so soon).
The little guy should sleep the first leg to Singapore (as we’re leaving Sydney at 6pm), and then the next leg from Singapore to Zurich is going to be interesting (13 hours with a baby during the “day”). And then there’s arriving being jetlagged…
Finishing… Lots of loose ends of boring, administrative things. Tax returns and citizenships.
Learning… To make “to do” lists.
They’re so helpful to stay on track (with constant interruptions), and it makes me feel like I am actually accomplishing something everyday. Even if I do mostly tick off mundane things like “laundry” and “post this letter.”
Listening to… The Wiggles, Rock-a-bye your bear.
It buys me a minute and a half of entertaining the baby (and dammit, it’s catchy).
Planning… Lots of trips!
Europe, Toowoomba (for a wedding in November), and two trips to Melbourne (in October and for Christmas). I’m exhausted just thinking about all the packing, unpacking, and having a (potentially) mobile baby.
Reading… The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.
I put off reading this for ages (because: long book and spare time). I’m steadily reading it and it’s so good! So glad I decided not to be intimidated by its length.
Realising… how quickly time is flying.
I was scrolling through pictures of the little guy on my phone and just wanted to reach through the phone and pick up his little 3 month old self. Made me realise that I would look back at photos of him now and will want to do that same. I need to make the most of being able to pick him up and squeeze him!
Running… once a week.
I was looking to start training for a half marathon, but then I put together a training schedule and realised just how much effort (and time commitment) it would actually be. Coupled with going to Europe, it was just a bit too much! 😉
Hoping to work on running a faster 5k!
Watching… The Bachelor Australia #noshame
